Hopp Ground Garden Club
Named for the historic Hopp Ground on Bedford’s Village Green—where wild hops once thrived—the Hopp Ground Garden Club (HGGC) is a welcoming space for gardeners, horticulturalists, and floral designers of all skill levels. Whether you’re a curious beginner or a seasoned green thumb, HGGC invites you to share in the joy of gardening and contribute to the preservation and beauty of our beloved town.
Their mission is simple: to foster a deeper appreciation for nature, support sustainable gardening practices, and maintain the charm and greenery of Bedford. With monthly workshops, engaging lectures, and hands-on learning, members gain valuable knowledge while building friendships rooted in a shared love for the outdoors.
From identifying mystery plants to reviving struggling gardens, our members are always ready to lend advice, encouragement, and a helping hand. If you have an interest in gardening and a desire to give back to your community, there’s a place for you at Hopp Ground.
The Hopp Ground Garden Club is proud to be a member of the 9th District of the Federated Garden Clubs of New York State, which is part of National Garden Clubs, Inc. and the Central Atlantic Region of State Garden Clubs. They share in the our mission to educate, promote conservation, protect native plants, and encourage civic beautification across our region.
Notable Activities: Emphasizes community service and horticultural education in Bedford. The club partners with local organizations on projects like community vegetable gardens and native plant workshops. Every Thanksgiving, Hopp Ground members create floral bouquets for Meals on Wheels recipients in the Bedford area. The club also holds plant sales and garden tours, with proceeds supporting town beautification (e.g. plantings at parks and the library).
